Who is Benz King? Beyond the business card
In 2018, Fam Chee Way made a personal donation of RM100,000 and appeared in charity coverage. An insider account, however, portrays him as a businessman who made his name through cigarette smuggling. The same Benz King. Two introductions. A striking contrast.
Benz King is Fam Chee Way, written 范志伟 in Chinese; his personal website uses Dato Ben. China Press reported his donation to Tabung Harapan. In 2025, he appeared at a charity dinner held by Kelab Sukan dan Rekreasi Malaysia. Contributing money and taking part in community affairs, this businessman has no shortage of charitable moments in his public profile.
His biography hardly short-changes him either. He received the DIMP from Pahang in 2013, carrying the title Dato. His website also says he received an honorary doctorate from Wilmington Metropolitan University in 2025. With “Prof. Dato’ Dr.” lined up in front, Fam Chee Way becomes the plainest part of the line.
A concrete business milestone came in January 2025. Through DB Atlantic Capital (M) Sdn. Bhd., he acquired a stake in listed company Velocity Capital Partner Berhad. The next day, he was appointed a non-independent non-executive director. His name also appears in shareholding information for Harvest Miracle, Graphjet and Pioneer. His website lists further advisory and directorship roles. Beyond the titles lies a string of company names that actually appear in the records.
Outside the companies, there is KSRM. Its full Malay name is Kelab Sukan dan Rekreasi Malaysia; its Chinese name is 马来西亚青年体育商会俱乐部. The club calls him its founder, while coverage of its 2025 charity dinner calls him permanent honorary adviser. Its public accounts also use “265” and “義南阁”. Fam's public roles extend from companies to associations, from investment to charity.
The account offered by his accusers starts earlier, with a different vocabulary. The insider narrative retained in the project places the start of his cigarette business in 2012 and calls cigarette smuggling his claim to fame. His public biography talks about enterprise. The insider account starts with illicit cigarettes. Even making a name has two versions.
In that insider account, cigarettes are only the beginning. It links Benz King to Haolong, underground gambling and the drug trade. It also alleges that he works with enforcement agencies, using pressure to acquire stakes and take over companies as a behind-the-scenes figure in the so-called corporate mafia. In this portrayal, the businessman's most valuable asset is not merely business, but the connections he is alleged to be able to mobilise. The advisers and directors on the business card acquire a different vocabulary of power in his accusers' telling.
The circulation of these claims also includes an old news story that is easy to misread. In 2021, newspapers reported on a smuggling figure called “Datuk Ben”. The channel later reposted the coverage and placed Fam Chee Way's full name in related posts. Putting the names closer together does not settle the identity: the original reporting did not supply a full name and cannot simply be treated as an episode established to have happened to Fam.
By 2024, the channel was presenting personal labels alongside company lists. In January 2025, NuclearManBursa's corporate-mafia commentary brought in his Velocity board appointment. The appointment is documented; the gang connection is the commentator's allegation. A company announcement enters another article and is placed inside a different story.
The wealth claims are just as grand. The insider account compares him to an Asian Pablo Escobar and alleges annual earnings of at least RM1.5 billion. An October 2024 channel post lists “more than 20 companies” under Fam Chee Way's name. Descriptions such as “largest underground bookmaker” and “largest group” also come from the insider material. The titles on his website already make a long line. His accusers add bigger numbers and louder labels.
Annual income, company counts, company assets and personal shareholdings are different sets of accounts. What the insider says he earns, how many companies a post lists and how many shares a filing records cannot simply be added up to produce Fam's personal net worth. Numbers can make a businessman look enormous. They do not become the same measure because of it.
Back on Fam Chee Way's website, titles precede his name, with business and charity following behind. A respectable introduction. In his accusers' telling, the same Benz King is written into stories of illicit cigarettes, gambling and the corporate mafia. Both sides introduce the businessman, as though each holds a different business card. Which card tells his whole story? The cards themselves offer no answer.
